October 2025: A Landmark Month for India’s Auto Retail – Driven by Reform, Festivity, and Rural Revival

Reflecting on October 2025’s performance, FADA President Mr. C. S. Vigneshwar described it as a “landmark month where reforms, festivities, and rural resurgence came together to deliver record-breaking results.” Overall retail sales surged 40.5% YoY, marking the highest-ever growth in India’s auto retail history. The month stood out as a turning point where GST 2.0, festive fervour, and strong rural sentiment combined to create unprecedented momentum across all vehicle categories.

After a relatively quiet September due to the GST 2.0 transition, October rebounded sharply — a month that mirrored a “hurdle race” where pent-up demand, tax relief, and festival excitement worked hand-in-hand to drive the market to new highs.

Key Highlights – October 2025 Auto Retail

  • Overall Retail Growth: Up 40.5% YoY – a record milestone.
  • Two-Wheelers (2W): Surged 52% YoY, powered by rural demand, GST cuts, and festive sales.
  • Passenger Vehicles (PV): Jumped 11% YoY, crossing 5.57 lakh units — India’s highest-ever monthly retail.
  • Commercial Vehicles (CV): Expanded 18% YoY, supported by freight and infrastructure growth.
  • Three-Wheelers (3W): Up 5% YoY, Tractors (Trac): Gained 14% YoY.
  • Construction Equipment (CE): Declined 30% YoY due to delayed projects.
  • Inventory Levels: Improved to 53–55 days, indicating better supply-demand balance.

The introduction of GST 2.0 proved to be a game-changer, especially for small cars, where reduced tax rates enhanced affordability for first-time buyers. This timely policy shift, coupled with festive offers, translated optimism into real sales.

The real story, however, was the rise of Bharat. Rural India emerged as the growth engine — with favourable monsoons, higher farm incomes, and infrastructure investment driving purchasing power. Rural PV sales grew over 3x faster than urban markets, and rural 2W demand nearly doubled urban growth, reshaping India’s automotive demand landscape.
