SEPC from Ministry of Commerce & Industry appointed Abhijeet Sinha as Principal Advisor

Abhijeet Sinha, a distinguished technocrat from the field of economic and tech commercialization since 2014, has been appointed as Principal Advisor in Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s led and operated Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) of Government of India.

The government is taking rapid steps to tackle the challenge of tariffs, including launching the Export Promotion Mission and a support mission worth ₹25,000 crore to boost services exports. In this context, while the government has advised service exporters to overcome non-tariff barriers and explore new markets, amid these tariff challenges as a technocrat Sinha will bring expertise and experience in climate financing, green credits and circular economy, public-private partnership models, and collaboration with international agencies and policymakers to the SEPC Council.

He will also work on digital tools, market identification and branding of Indian services in the Export Promotion Mission, so that, by accelerating the mission mode for ‘Viksit Bharat’ goals, India’s leading Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) can be prepared to contribute to world-class service promotion programs across sectors of the economy in line with international expectations.

To achieve the progressive goals of a Viksit Bharat, Sinha is known for preparing strategic policy advice and financial models for climate financing in the public sector through blended climate finance instruments such as Annuity Hybrid E-Mobility (AHEM) and Digital Health Annuity Model (DHAM). These utilize public financial provisions and institutional funds as ‘seed money’ under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models to attract private investments, thereby reducing risks. His efforts have enabled up to ₹5,000 crore of private investments through large projects like NHEV. Sinha is recognized primarily for his expertise in financial policymaking based on evidence-driven policy-making in such major cost and capital-intensive projects.

Sinha is also known for his simple language, easy accessibility, innovation, and reform-driven thinking. He is regarded as a program director who promotes accountability, transparency, and innovation in projects implemented in both the private and public sectors. He is recognized for his willpower in bringing fundamental changes in systems, advancing private sector participation, and driving technological transformation for ease of doing business.

About Abhijeet Sinha

Sinha is a technocrat and currently leads India’s premier emerging tech-piloting agency as the National Program Director of Ease of Doing Business. For nearly a decade, he has contributed to advancing new tech economies and emerging markets at the grassroots level across states and sectors under Prime Minister Modi’s broad “techno-economic” vision. Earlier, he was a member of PM Modi’s 2014 electoral campaign team, ‘Citizen for Accountable Governance’ (CAG) and actively participated in PM’s 2019 #MaiBhiChowkidar campaign and the ‘Viksit Bharat Abhiyan’ in the 2024 elections. Sinha also holds additional charge as Project Director for Government of India infrastructure and foundational health and business-related projects such as National Highways for Electric Vehicles (NHEV), DIISHA (DIISHA), Drone Pilot (Drones Pilot), and Climate Financing instruments (Trillion $ Tech for Circular Economy).

Experience: Sinha has 10 years of experience as the Program Director of Ease of Doing Business, successfully implementing technically and economically viable projects.

State and Central: During the 2014 NDA government, he worked with officials who moved from Gujarat to Delhi on private sector joint programs held in various states modeled on ‘Vibrant Gujarat.’ Until 2017, he was also the Program Director of ‘Radiant U.P.’

Honorary Appointment (Advisory): His appointment comes at a time when various government ministries are enhancing the capacity of their institutions, central and public enterprises in mission mode to accomplish the goals of ‘Viksit Bharat.’ Amid US tariff challanges. He was also an ambassador for ‘Viksit Bharat’ in the 2024 general elections.

Background: Before joining CM Narendra Modi’s special campaign team ‘Citizen for Accountable Governance’ (CAG) in 2013-14, Sinha was involved in pilot state and district-level projects like digitalization of National Population Register (NPR) in AADHAR’s UIDAI and digitalization training of ASHA health workers in IMNCI pilots.

Additional Charge: Sinha has previously served as an advisor to programs of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries’ institute NIFTEM (National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management) and FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India). He served for 7 years as an advisor on the board of the Steel Users Federation of India (SUFI), an industry association to the Ministry of Steel. He is currently the Program Director for the Government’s ambitious e-mobility pilot National Highway Electric Vehicle (NHEV) project and also serves as the President of the Charge Point Operator Society of India (CPOs of India).
